How to apply for the HDMI membership? How about the cost?
HDMI Licensing LLC is a closed profit driven organization, only members(adapters) have the right to sell products with the HDMI function. There are three kinds of cost for an adapter to start up the HDMI business. They are the adapter annual fees, the product royalties, and the compliance testing fees.
In addition, if the product with HDCP encryption function, will need to pay another annual fee to the HDCP Association, and purchase the HDCP product keys, we can discuss these in the next question.
First of all, the HDMI adapter annual fee. One needs to sign the adapter agreement to become a HDMI adapter. The annual fee of a standard member is US $10,000 per annum. Adaptor can choose US$5,000 annual fee program, but every product needs to pay another $1administration fee except the royalty. You can apply to become an adapter online. Refer to the website link of HDMI Licensing LLC.: http://www.hdmi.org/manufacturer/adopter_registration.aspx
Then, the royalty. After the product sales, adapters must have business report to the HDMI Licensing LLC. quarterly, including the amount of each product model sales, with the royalty fee levels. after approval, pay the right fees for the royalties. One product set just needs one royalty fee. No need to pay another royalties for the HDMI cables or other accessories inside the same product package.
Three royalty fee levels are defined here:
1. US $0.15/each, for product with incorrect HDMI logo on product or manuals.
2. US $0.05/each, for product with the correct HDMI logo on both products and manuals.
3. US $0.04/each, for HDCP product with the correct HDMI logo on both products and manuals.
For the correct use of the HDMI logo, please refer to the official web link of HDMI Licensing LLC.: http://www.hdmi.org/learningcenter/trademark_logo_pub.aspx
The third kind of cost is the test fee. All HDMI products are required to be tested for HDMI compatibility prior to sale and certified by the Association’s accreditation letter or the HDMI Certification center. Depending on the complexity of the product and the project to be tested, each certification center will have different pricing strategies. HDMI 2.0 is much more expensive to test than HDMI 1.4. About $ thousands of to $ tens of thousands of. Please contact our customer coordinator through email firstname.lastname@example.org, or telephone +86(755)26038318 for detail.
